190 series engines for oil drilling
The 190 series is the workhorse of oil field drilling. All versions are four-stroke, water-cooled, turbocharged and intercooled direct-injection engines with 190 mm bore.
- 2000 series (560–1,000 kW): based on the Z12V190B, improved for reliability and easier maintenance. It is available with a torque converter, a coupler or as a generator set, and drives drilling rigs, mud pumps, fire pumps and flood pumps.
- 3000 series (810–1,235 kW): developed from the 6000 series for mechanical and electric drilling rigs from 4,000 m to 7,000 m. It is also used in power stations, industrial and mining locomotives, and ship main and auxiliary engines.
- 4000 series (1,200–1,300 kW): a long-stroke design developed with AVL simulation software. It organizes combustion well at lower speeds and suits mechanical drilling rigs and 50 Hz or 60 Hz generator sets.
- 6000 series (900–2,180 kW): 6, 8, 12 and 16-cylinder engines developed by Jichai with AVL and domestic universities. They are used in oil drilling, diesel power stations, offshore drilling platforms, locomotives and ships.
175 series high-pressure common rail engines
The 175 series (1,370–1,766 kW) was developed by Jichai with AVL of Austria, building on 40 years of 190 series experience. It uses electronic control, high-pressure common rail, the Miller cycle, exhaust after-treatment and high-efficiency turbocharging. Mean effective pressure reaches 2.0 MPa, fuel consumption is 198 g/kWh, the first overhaul comes at 35,000 hours, and emissions meet US EPA Tier 2. It powers electric drive drilling rigs from 4,000 m to 12,000 m, as well as offshore platforms, large ships and power stations.
200 series electronically controlled engines
The L200 series (700–1,650 kW) delivers about 10% more power and torque than the L190 series with the same external dimensions. Electronic unit pumps control injection quantity, timing and pressure precisely, improving combustion and reducing emissions. It is used for electric drilling rigs, marine applications and power generation.
Medium-speed engines: 26/32, 27/38 and 32/40
- 26/32 series (12V2632, 4,170 kW at 1000 r/min): developed with AVL, with common rail, a strong Miller cycle and two-stage intercooling. Fuel consumption is 184 g/kWh or less, and it can run on diesel or natural gas.
- 27/38 series (JC130, 2,080–2,640 kW at 750/720 r/min): runs on MGO, MDO or HFO, meets IMO Tier II, and is used for marine propulsion, pumps and marine or land generator sets.
- 32/40 series (JC320, 4,500 kW): a 9-cylinder inline engine running on MGO, MDO or HFO. It meets IMO Tier I or Tier II and serves marine propulsion and large generator sets.
Coupling gearbox sets for drilling rigs
The 2000 series hydraulic coupling gear reducer mounts directly on the engine flywheel housing and sits on a shared chassis, which keeps the set compact with a short axial length.
- YOZJ750 with G12V190ZLG: 600–1,300 kW, input speed 600–1,500 r/min, slip 3%, efficiency of 96% or more, reduction ratio 1.5–2.5. It is standard equipment on oil drilling rigs.
- Coupling set with H12V190ZLG1: 800–1,200 kW, for petroleum drilling machinery and dredging projects.

FAQ
Which engine suits a 7,000 m drilling rig?
The 3000 series covers mechanical and electric rigs from 4,000 m to 7,000 m. For electric drive rigs up to 12,000 m, the 175 series is designed for that duty. We confirm the final choice with your rig design.
Which emission standards do the engines meet?
The 175 series meets US EPA Tier 2. The 26/32, 27/38 and 32/40 series meet IMO Tier II, and some models are also available to IMO Tier I.
Can an engine be supplied with a torque converter or coupler?
Yes. The 2000 and 3000 series can be assembled with a torque converter or coupling on the same chassis to drive a drilling rig or mud pump.
